History
An Ceathrú Póilí was founded in 1983 in Ardscoil Bhéal Feirste. After the Ardscoil was destroyed by fire in 1984, the shop led a nomadic existence in the west of the city for a number of years. In 1991 a lease was secured on the old Broadway Presbyterian Church on the Falls Road in order to house the fledgling Meánscoil Feirste (Coláiste Feirste) the first Irish medium secondary school in the north. Other organisations and businesses moved into the building at that time, including the bookshop. The building was renamed Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich.
Today the Cultúrlann is a lively Irish language cultural, arts and education centre that welcomes visitors from far and wide. The bookshop is situated on the ground floor beside the popular café/restaurant, BIA. We stock almost 3000 titles: books for children, students, adult learners; novels, poetry, history, folklore, biography, as well as showcasing work by local artists and craftspeople.
The shop is a welcoming hub for readers, craftspeople an visitors. We hope to see you soon – and if you have any questions, please contact us.
