Description

Daoradh bean Éireannach chun báis ar chúis asarlaíochta agus crochadh  i mBostún Shasana Nua í ar an 16ú Samhain 1688.  Tagann sí anuas chugainn sa stair faoin ainm ‘Goody Glover’, bíodh gurbh ainm sclábhaíochta é sin. Is í an Ghaeilge an t-aon teanga a labhair sí sa chúirt, agus is sa triail a cuireadh uirthi is ea a fhaighimid an chéad tagairt don teanga i Meiriceá thuaidh. Is é atá san úrscéal seo ná samhlú ar shaol agus ar dhálaí na mná seo idir Bhostún, Bharbados agus Éire féin. Is i bhfoirm filíochta atá an t-úrscéal scríofa, an chéad cheann dá leithéid sa Ghaeilge.

In Boston, New England, an Irish woman was convicted of witchcraft and sentenced to death by hanging on the 16th November 1688. She comes to us from history under the name ‘Goody Glover’, a slave name. The only language she spoke in court was Irish, and it is from her trial that we find the first record of the Irish language in North America. An Bhean Feasa imagines the life and circumstances of this woman from Boston, to Barbados to Ireland. The novel is presented in through the medium of poetry, the first of its kind in Irish.
