Description

Ar Aoine an Chéasta sa bhliain 1014 a maraíodh Ardrí na hÉireann, Brian Bóraimhe, ag cath Chluain Tarbh. Deirtear go mbíonn dhá insint ar gach scéal agus sa leagan Éireannach den scéal atá le fáil in Annála Loch Cé, deirtear gur Danmhargach a bhí ag éalú ón gcath a mharaigh an t-Ardrí, a bhí ag urnaí istigh ina phuball. Insint eile ar an eachtra sin ata sa leagan Lochlannach a scríobhadh san Íoslainn timpeall na bliana 1280. Tá an dá insint sa leabhar seo i nGaeilge shimplí. Cuireann na léaráidí, le Pádraic Reaney, go mór leis an insint.

The High King of Ireland, Brian Boru was killed at the battle of Clontarf in 1014. But the Irish account of his death, as told in the Annals of loch Cé, differs considerably from the Scandinavian version, which was written down in Iceland about 1280. Both versions are told here in simple Irish with illustrations by Pádraic Reaney.
