Description

Michael Davitt’s achievement as one of the most compelling and innovative voices in Irish poetry is celebrated in the publication of a new dual-language selection of poems from his previous five volumes. Davitt and editor, Louis de Paor have collaborated on new English versions which evoke the texture and pulse of the original Irish. Other translators include Paul Muldoon, John Montague, Mary O’Malley, Brendan Kennelly, Philip Casey, Greg Delanty and Derry O’Sullivan. Michael Davitt was born in Cork in 1950. As a student in UCC in the late 1960s he was one of the instigators of the INNTI movement, a new vibrant wave of poetry in the Irish language, named after the magazine he edited until 1996. A recipient of the Butler Prize for literature in 1994. He is a member of Aosdána.
