Máire Mhac an tSaoi is one of the great poets of modern Irish. From her very first collection, Margadh na saoire (1956) her poetry has addressed many of life’s most challenging topics and in particular the experience of women. This book gathers opinions from scholars on various aspects of Mhac an tSaoi’s work. The literary heritage in her work is discussed in these essays; the maternal voice in her poetry, love and freedom, the external influences in her poems and other elements of her life and work.
