Description

Ceann de na heipicí is mó agus is fearr a scríobhadh riamh, agus é anois ar fáil sa Nua-Ghaeilge.

Is é Táin Bó Cuailnge an scéal is faide agus is tábhachtaí atá againn sa luathlitríocht, agus tá sé ar cheann de na heipicí próis is mó agus is clúití dár scríobhadh riamh.

Baineann scéal na Tána leis an ionradh a rinne Ailill agus Méabh Chonnacht agus ‘ceithre ollchúige Éireann’ ar Chúige Uladh, ag iarraidh tarbh an chúige a bhreith leo as Cuailnge. Is ann a insítear scéal Chú Chulainn, an laoch óg a sheas an fód ar son na nUltach ó Luan tosaigh na Samhna go dtí tús an earraigh, gan ina chuideachta ach a charbadóir Lao, agus é in aghaidh mhórshluaite Ailealla is Mhéibhe.

Is ann freisin a déantar cur síos ar a óige, ar a chéad ghaiscí, ar an gcaoi a fuair sé a ainm, agus ar a chomhrac crólinnteach lena chara is a chomhalta, an laoch Connachtach Feardia.

Ba san 11ú hAois a breacadh na leaganacha is sine dá bhfuil againn de Tháin Bó Cuailnge. Is é Darach Ó Scolaí a chuir i Nua-Ghaeilge.
One of the greatest epics ever written, now available in Modern Irish

This is the story of Cú Chulainn, the Hound of Ulster, and of how he stood his ground, along with his charioteer Lao, against the great host of Ailill and Maeve. Here, we read of his youth, of how he got his name, of his single combat with Ferdia, and of the deadly quarrel between Ailill and Maeve which led to the taking of the Brown Bull of Cooley.

Táin Bó Cuailnge was written in the 11th Century and was translated into Modern Irish by Darach Ó Scolaí.
