*A TRUE LIFE STORY OF THE ROSSES*
Paddy The Cope,
His real name was Patrick Gallagher, But his people have almost forgotten it.
He was born in Cleendara, a sinew of Mountain on the western coast of Donegal, on Christmas night 1871.
This is the story of his life. It was a great life and this is a great story.
It is, besides, a social document of the first importance. In that stony townland of Cleendara the Co-operative idea took root.
Paddy Gallagher and a few neighbours got together to make a collective purchase of manures. Out of that small beginning grew The Templecrone Co-operative Society, and Paddy Gallagher, the moving spirit and chairman, became-Paddy the Cope
