The most coveted cup in Irish sport, and the highlight of the GAA.s annual calendar commemorates Sam Maguire who was born into a Protestant family of eight children in Maulabraca, Dunmanway in 1877. At the age of 20 he emigrated to London and immersed himself in the GAA and the Gaelic League. He worked in a London Post Office by day, but his real job was with the IRB and through his close collaboration with Michael Collins he became a pivotal player in the Irish fight for freedom.
In this special centenary hardback limimited edition the author has added further research to Sam Maguire’s origins and his place of historical importance in the Irish War of Independence.
