Cur síos

Dúradh gurbh é an téarma lárnach é i meon na ndaoine in Éirinn sna cianaoiseanna: an caidreamh idir an duine agus Dia; ag gabháil isteach i saol eile trí am agus spás an tsaoil seo. Chaith Patrick Lafcadio Hearn,an scríbhneoir Éireannach-Gréagach, bliain agis roinnt míonna ó 1890 in Iarthar na Seapáine. Sa leabhar seo, tríd na scéalta a bhailigh sé,  léiríonn Hearn ‘an tréith is suntasaí i gcreideamh na Seapáine’ -‘Tuiscint dhomhain ar an cheangal idir an saol sofheicthe agus an saol dofheicthe’.

The Interaction between the human and the divine has been described as the central theme of early Irish consciousness; the stepping into an otherworld through the time and space of this one. Patrick Lafcadio Hearn, the Irish-Greek writer, spent one year and some months in western Japan from 1890. In this book through the stories he collected, Hearn shows us the ‘special religious characteristic of Japan’ – an ‘intimate sense of relation between the visible and invisible worlds.’
